A driver crashed in Southeast D.C. on Sunday, killing a passenger in the car and then ran away, D.C. police said.
Police spokesman Hugh Carew said investigators are trying to identify the driver but currently have no information about him or her.
The driver was speeding down Alabama Avenue SE at about 7:55 p.m. on Sunday, police said in a statement. The car — a black 1996 Nissan Maxima — hit a tree, then a chain-link fence on the 4100 block.
A person sitting in the front seat was admitted to a local hospital due to injuries suffered in the crash. Back-seat passenger Jaqueline Barnes, 28, was also hospitalized, but died of her injuries.
