Mason City, IA : Three-vehicle crash in front of Mercy in Mason City on Monday October 10 2016

A three-vehicle crash snarled traffic early Monday afternoon on Highway 122 near Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

The accident happened about 12:50 p.m. at Highway 122 and Mercy Drive.

Mason City police and firefighters blocked the westbound lanes of Highway 122 while they investigated the crash and cleaned debris.

The hood was smashed on a white car. A tan four-door car had the back bumper ripped off and the trunk crushed.

There was debris behind a maroon SUV, whose occupant was talking with a police officer at the scene.

Traffic was backed up on Highway 122 due to the crash. A stream of vehicles cut from the side streets through the hospital’s campus road to try to get around the blockage on the highway.

Details of the crash were not immediately available.
