Hope Mills, N.C : Two people dead after motorcycle hit head-on by car in Cumberland County on Sunday morning, June 26, 2016
Hope Mills, North Carolina
Two people on a motorcycle were killed Sunday morning after a car slammed into them head-on in Hope Mills, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said.
The crash occurred just after 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Elk Road and Falconbridge Road. According to authorities, the motorcycle was heading southeast on Elk Road and the car was traveling northwest. The car crossed the line and slammed into the motorcycle.
The two on the motorcycle were killed. The driver of the car was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for observation, authorities said. A third car, which was behind the motorcycle, was also involved. The driver of that car was uninjured.
Kimberly Martuscelli says her husband rushed outside to try to save one biker, until help arrived.
“He was just trying to stay down there with him and keep him calm and talk to him and holding his hand just letting him know he was there, he wasn’t alone,” Martuscelli said.
She went outside also to see what had happened.
“It was a scary scene, because you feel like, these people were on a motorcycle and it’s so important for anyone driving to be aware of what’s going on around them. That was just something that they couldn’t have prevented,” Martuscelli said.
Charges are pending against the driver of the car that hit the motorcycle. Authorities will consult with the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office to determine the charges.
The crash is still under investigation. The identity of those killed has not been released.
