RIMROCK, AZ : Driver killed, 4 hurt in wrong-way crash on I-17 in northern Arizona on Wednesday, 26th June 2024

One person is dead, and four others have been hurt in a wrong-way crash early Wednesday morning on Interstate 17 in northern Arizona.

The collision happened around 2 a.m. on Interstate 17 north of Rimrock. According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, 34-year-old Johnny Gutierrez was driving on the freeway near milepost 293, heading northbound in the southbound lanes. Moments later, Gutierrez collided head-on with another sedan at milepost 299 near State Route 179.

DPS reports Gutierrez was pronounced dead at the scene and that no one else was in his vehicle. Four people in the other sedan were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
