Columbus, OH : Man rescued 2 days after Clermont County on Monday, 31st October 2016
A man was rescued from a single-vehicle crash in Clermont County Monday morning two days after it happened, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) said.
Kory Chambers, 38, flipped his vehicle on Saturday night along Ohio State Route 133 in Williamsburg, ODOT said, after failing to make a curve and veering off the left side of the road. The car struck a tree and turned over to the driver's side.
Chambers wasn't found until Monday morning by ODOT workers Jeff Armstrong and Ryan Ninichuck, ODOT said.
Armstrong said they had stopped to remove a deer from the side of the road and saw a car in the woods with a foot sticking out of the window.
They called 911 immediately and started trying to talk to him.
"I really didn't want to walk down there when no one was answering," Armstrong said. "I was expecting the worst. It's something you don't want to go see."
Ninichuck said it took two or three minutes for Chambers to begin responding.
"It was a good feeling knowing he was still alive," Armstrong said at a press conference Monday.
Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Wayne Price said the vehicle was rolled over on its side and was concealed well, so Armstrong and Ninichuck "saved this guy's life."
"From my perspective, I commend these two," Price said. "They were paying attention to their surroundings. They were looking around. They were doing the things that you would hope people would do."
Price said the area of the crash on SR-133 is well-traveled, but if they hadn't found the car back it might not have been spotted for a long time due to the tall weeds.
Chambers was flown to University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he remains, and is in stable condition with his family, according to Price. He said Chambers doesn't remember much about the crash. His family had last seen him Saturday night.
OSHP said the crash remains under investigation. A cause has not been determined.
