Decatur,AL : Cover of DU valve struck driver in fatal accident on April, Friday 27th 2018

The object that struck a driver on Wilson Street Northwest on April 20, leading to her death Friday, was the cover of a Decatur Utilities water valve, according to DU.

Moulton resident Karen Mathews Jenkins, 59, died from injuries sustained when the object struck her as she drove west on the state route. She died Friday afternoon at Huntsville Hospital after being taken off life support. Her funeral was Tuesday.

According to Decatur police, a vehicle hit the object and it flew over another car before hitting the front windshield of Jenkins’ Toyota Corolla.
