A 16-year-old girl was killed in a crash early Sunday in southern Dallas when a car full of teens swerved into a tree.
Dallas County deputies were called about 2:25 a.m. to the eastbound Interstate 20 service road near Willoughby Road in the Red Bird area, where a Nissan Maxima was in a ditch with a person trapped inside.
The girl in the front passenger seat was pronounced dead just before 2:30 a.m., a spokesman for the sheriff's department said. She had not been identified by officials Monday.
The driver, an 18-year-old woman, was taken to Baylor University Medical Center and was stable. The passenger in the back left seat, a 17-year-old girl, was hospitalized in critical condition.
A 17-year-old boy had to be extricated from the vehicle, and he also was hospitalized. He told deputies that the driver had exited the freeway too fast and swerved, losing control of the vehicle.
