Union Township, NJ : One person killed, 1 injured when car hits pedestrians on Route 22 in Union on Saturday, December 19, 2015
Authorities say two pedestrians were struck by a car on a northern New Jersey highway, leaving one dead and one seriously injured.
The accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. Saturday on Route 22 in Union.
Police say the pedestrians had crossed the eastbound side of the highway and were trying to get across the westbound side when they were hit. The driver of the car apparently was not injured.
The person killed was pronounced dead a short time after the accident occurred. The injured person was hospitalized in stable condition, but further details on that person's injuries were not disclosed.
The names of the pedestrians and the driver have not been released.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation. No charges have been filed so far.
