Cartersville, GA : Friday wreck claims 3 lives on Friday, 16th September 2016
A two-vehicle collision Friday night in Bartow County left three people dead and one man facing charges for vehicular homicide.
The three victims, all from?Dalton, were a 25-year-old woman and two infant children.
At approximately 11:35 p.m. Friday night, crews from Bartow County Emergency Medical Services responded to the crash on U.S. 411/S.R. 20 just west of Cowan Drive, according to BCEMS?spokesman Brad Cothran.
The response was to a wreck involving a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck and a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which were both driving eastbound in the left lane.
The Jeep, driven by 25-year-old Deneisha Washington of Dalton, began to slow down and the truck, following closely behind, did not. The truck, driven by 51-year-old Scottie Worfford of Rockmart, hit the back of the Jeep, and both vehicles exited the roadway before coming to rest in the median facing northbound.
The jeep, which was hit at a high rate of speed, was destroyed. Washington was fatally injured in the crash. Two backseat passengers, 11-month-old Octavian Bynum and two-year-old Iyania Bynum, were also killed.
A third child, eight-year-old Shamya Washington, who also lives in Dalton, was injured and airlifted tp Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for immediate medical treatment.
Worfford, whose injuries were not life-threatening, has been charged with three counts of homicide by vehicle in the first degree, serious injury by vehicle, driving under the influence and following too closely.
He was booked into the Bartow County Jail.
