Topeka, KS : Driver of stolen car flees after crash at S.W. Huntoon and Polk on Tuesday, 11th February, 2020
The driver of a stolen car remained at large early Tuesday afternoon after he fled the scene of a crash near downtown Topeka, authorities said.
The crash occurred about 11:45 a.m. Tuesday at S.W. Huntoon and Polk.
Kansas Highway Patrol Lt. Adam Winters said a trooper saw a silver four-door Toyota Camry that had been reported stolen near S.W. Huntoon and Gage.
As the trooper followed the Camry, it took off headed east on S.W. 12th from Gage.
S.W. 12th is a one-way street carrying westbound traffic at that location.
Winters said the trooper chased the Toyota for about a minute before calling off the pursuit.
The Camry then continued traveling east on S.W. 12th before it came to S.W. Polk, where it turned right — or south.
The Camry then collided with a white four-door Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight that was traveling east on S.W. Huntoon.
The driver of the stolen Toyota then got out of the car and ran from the scene, Winters said. He hadn’t been located as of 1 p.m.The driver of the Oldsmobile didn’t require ambulance transportation to the hospital, Winters said. It wasn’t immediately known whether the Oldsmobile’s driver had any injuries.
