West Des Moines, IA : One person died and the other person injured in a fatal crash on Interstate 80 on Wednesday August 13th 2014

A fatal crash was reported on eastbound Interstate 80 in West Des Moines Wednesday. The crash was reported about 8:41 a.m. after a car somehow drove between the cable barriers and crashed head-on into the pedestrian bridge near 60th Street. Des Moines police spokesman Sgt. Ken O'Brien said the male driver was killed in the crash and a male passenger suffered serious injuries. He was taken to a metro hospital. Authorities said the car has out-of-state license plates. Witnesses reported it was driving erratically before the crash happened. An autopsy is planned. Traffic has returned to normal hours after the crash, but for a time traffic was funneled off onto the shoulder to get around the crash scene. The crash remains under investigation.
