Island County, WA : Two injured in two-car collision on Highway 525 in Clinton on Wednesday May 11th, 2016

A two-car collision near Naomi’s Mobil gas station on Highway 525 in Clinton shut down one lane of traffic for about an hour Wednesday afternoon.
The crash occurred at about 4:30 p.m. According to police, 78-year-old Clinton resident Jesse Groeschen pulled out of the gas station in his Dodge pickup truck and was struck by a northbound GMC pickup truck, driven by Jeffrey Bieber, 58, of Freeland. The two cars blocked most of the roadway after the collision, halting southbound traffic.
Groeschen and his passenger, 64-year-old Pamela Thompson of Clinton, were taken to Whidbey General Hospital by ambulance. Emergency responders from South Whidbey Fire/EMS could not comment on the extent of their injuries.
Deputy Brent Durley with the Island County Sheriff’s Office said Groeschen could potentially be charged with failing to yield. No drugs or alcohol were involved. Durley said that Bieber appeared to be without injury and another deputy gave him a ride home.
