Larose, LAA : Pedestrian killed in Larose crash on La. 1 near West 65th Street on Thursday, 30th January, 2020

A 71-year-old pedestrian was killed in a one-vehicle crash this evening in Larose, State Police said.
The crash claimed the life of Bill Chabert Sr., of Cut Off, Senior Trooper Jesse LaGrange said in a release.
According to a preliminary investigation, a 2019 Volkswagen Atlas driven by 65-year-old Debra Charamie was traveling north around 6 p.m. on La. 1 near West 65th Street, LaGrange said. Chabert didn’t yield to Cheramie’s SUV as it approached and crossed La. 1 from west to east.
Chabert was struck in the northbound lane and suffered fatal injuries, LaGrange said. Cheramie, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured.
Although impairment on the part of Chabert is not suspected, a standard toxicology report is pending. Cheramie’s breath sample showed no alcohol present, LaGrange said.
The crash remains under investigation.
