Oregon State Police are continuing to investigate a crash that happened Saturday night involving a teen driver and six passengers in a pickup.
According to police, the crash occurred at 11:30 p.m. on Highway 47 near Vernonia. A 1997 Ford F250 pickup traveling southbound was negotiating a turn when it lost control. Investigators said the 16-year-old driver over-corrected and drove the car into a ditch where the passenger side crashed into a large tree.
The driver and the right rear passenger were transported to Providence St. Vincent Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. A third passenger, who was lying across the laps of other passengers, was taken by a family member to an area hospital, according to police.
The other four people in the truck were not injured and were picked up by family members.
Six of the seven occupants were 16 years old and the other was 17. All were from the Vernonia area. According to police, the driver and three passengers were wearing seat belts. The three other passengers were not.
Oregon State Police are still investigating the crash and an enforcement decision is pending.
