A 26-year-old Denham Springs man died in a single-vehicle crash Saturday night in Walker, State Police said.
Christopher D. Fowler was killed in the crash, which occurred shortly before 7 p.m. on La. 447 south of Interstate 12, State Police said in a news release. Witnesses told State Police that before the crash, Fowler was driving at a high rate of speed and passing other vehicles in a no-passing zone.
As he was driving northbound on La. 447, he tried to pass a vehicle in a curve and re-enter the northbound lane, but he lost control of the vehicle and drove off the roadway, State Police said. His vehicle struck some trees and flipped on its side.
Fowler was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was partially ejected from the vehicle, State Police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
State Police said impairment was a possible factor in the crash, and a toxicology sample was taken from Fowler to be submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
The crash remains under investigation.
