MARSHALL COUNTY, IN : Car crosses median; driver dies in multiple vehicle crash on Thursday, October 6th, 2016

The Indiana State Police were called to the of a fatal crash in Marshall County that happened shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday on US 31 and 9A Road. The driver who caused the crash crossed over a grass median and died following a collision with two other vehicles.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a driver of a 2007 Chevrolet Impala was traveling east bound on 9A Road and pulled into the path of a 2005 Kentworth semi-tractor trailer and a 2015 Nissan van that were both traveling southbound on US 31. The collision sent the Impala and van across the grass median and into the north bound lanes of US 31. It appears the driver of the Impala was attempting to cross US 31, according a press release from Indiana State Police. The driver of the tractor-trailer was driving in the lane of US 31 and the driver of the van was driving in the passing lame.

The drivers of the tractor trailer and the van both sustained minor leg injuries and were treated at nearby hospital. The driver of the Impala died at the scene.

Portions of US 31 were restricted until approximately 5:30 p.m.
