Lasvegas, NV : Pedestrian hit, killed on I-15 laid down in freeway on Thursday, January 26th 2017

A pedestrian killed Thursday on Interstate 15 was involved in a crash before he laid down in the freeway and was hit by a semitractor-trailer, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The incident, which happened about 3:15 p.m. near Jean, shut down southbound traffic.

A Kia Rio was headed north when it ran off the left side of the freeway and hit the concrete median barrier, the patrol said. After the crash, the driver got out, began running down the southbound lanes and laid down in the center travel lane, the patrol said.

The truck driver tried to brake and steer around the man but couldn’t slow down and hit him, the patrol said.

The pedestrian, David Peterson, 41, of Show Low, Ariz., was pronounced dead at the scene, the patrol said. The truck driver, who was not injured, was not cited, the patrol said.

It is not known what prompted Peterson's actions.
