A woman was in serious condition after a hit-and-run accident near downtown this afternoon, according to Metro Police.
According to a Metro investigation, a gold ?Pontiac Bonneville was driving south on Atlantic Street at 1:24 p.m. when it suddenly turned right and drove through an empty lot in the direction of Olive Street, Metro Lt. Bruce Miyama said. The car crossed Olive and struck a female walking on the sidewalk, causing her to fly up and crush the windshield.
The woman was transported to University Medical Center with serious injuries.
The driver fled the scene with "significant" windshield damage. Around 3 p.m., Metro officers found the car abandoned nearby with the driver nowhere in sight, Miyama said.
She was soon located and taken into custody after 4 p.m., Lt. John Liberty said.
No details of the arrest were released.
The incident is being ruled a felony hit-and-run, and Metro investigators are on scene.?
