Mason City, IA : 5 dead in a fiery crash on Sixth Street Southwest early Monday, April 10, 2017

Five people were killed early Monday in a fiery crash on Sixth Street Southwest.

None of the five have been identified. All were apparently in a 2007 Jeep Liberty that reportedly struck a tree and caught fire on the 400 block of Sixth Street Southwest at about 2:30 a.m.

Police Chief Jeff Brinkley said police have tentatively identified the driver but are not releasing any information until they have confirmation. Other occupants of the vehicle are still unidentified.

Police came across the crash at about 2:40 a.m. when officers noticed a power outage west of downtown and began a search for the possible cause.
