QUINCY, IL : Head-on crash on Gardner Expressway injures two on Friday, September 22nd 2017
Gardner Expressway was closed for about 90 minutes early Friday after a head-on crash injured two.
The Adams County Sheriff's Department reports a 1996 Ford van driven by Matthew E. Thompson, 32, of Quincy was southbound and a 2018 International semitractor-trailer driven by Brian L. McCallister, 58, of Ursa, was northbound on Gardner Expressway, at 1:53 a.m. south of Lock and Dam Road near ADM. The department said Thomspon crossed over into McCallister's lane, striking the front of the Kohl's semitrailer.
Thompson, who was not wearing a seat belt, had to be extracted from his van by fire personnel and was taken to Blessing Hospital with serious injuries. McCallister refused treatment, but later went by private vehicle to Blessing with a minor injury.
Gardner Expressway was closed for about 90 minutes to remove the vehicles.
Thompson was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, driving while license revoked, improper lane usage, illegal transportation of alcohol and no insurance.
The department was assisted by Adams County Ambulance, Tri-Township Fire and Quincy Police Department.
