Cozad, NE : Three people dead, five injured in 2-vehicle wreck on Interstate 80 near Cozad on Wednesday, February 25, 2015

The Nebraska State Patrol says three people were killed and five others were injured in a two-vehicle collision on a highway near Cozad.

The State Patrol says a vehicle traveling westbound on Interstate 80 crossed the median and struck an eastbound vehicle around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The three people killed in the crash were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say a helicopter flew two people to a Kearney hospital. Three others were taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Their conditions weren't immediately known.

The Lincoln Journal Star reports the eastbound lanes were closed for several hours Wednesday as authorities investigated the crash and cleared the road.
