Portland, OR : Authorities identify 2 pedestrians killed in separate Portland crashes on Monday, 7th January 2019

A 78-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman were killed in separate crashes in Portland, police say.

Lowell W. Gibson was traveling in a crosswalk near Southwest Park Avenue and Salmon Street around 7:05 a.m. when a driver of a Chevrolet Traverse hit him while driving in reverse, police said.

Rachelle D. Cox was on a sidewalk around 2:55 p.m. Saturday near Northeast Airport Way and Mason Street when a driver of a Subaru Legacy went off the road and hit her, according to police. It’s not clear what caused the driver to veer onto the sidewalk.

The drivers in both crashes were still there when officers arrived. They haven’t been identified by police and no arrests have been announced. The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office will be reviewing both cases after police have finished their investigation.
