Atlanta, GA : Texas man ejected from car in deadly I-20 crash in Carroll County early Wednesday, March 8, 2017
Authorities released new details in a crash that killed a man and shut down eastbound lanes of I-20 in Carroll County for nearly three hours early Wednesday.
George Echols, 73, was heading east on I-20 in the right lane when he veered off the south shoulder, where a vehicle was parked, the Georgia State Patrol said in a statement.
He hit the vehicle, and the impact of the crash caused Echols to fly out of his vehicle, the GSP said.
Echols had recently moved from Smyrna to Longview, Texas, Carroll County coroner Keith Hancock said.
He was returning to metro Atlanta about 7:30 a.m. when his 1999 GMC Savana van was totaled in the crash. He was the only person in the van, authorities said.
