Limestone County, AL : Elkmont man killed after crashing into tree on Tuesday 5, 2014
An Elkmont man is dead after losing control of his car on Alabama 127 just after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Alabama State Troopers said he lost control and left the road about four miles north of Athens. Troopers could only advise the car left the roadway, but Limestone County Coroner Mike West confirmed the car hit a tree next to a house. West said the car then struck the house but only slightly, and it was the impact with the tree that killed the driver. No other vehicles were involved.
West and Highway Patrol identified the driver as 38-year-old Joe Eddy Campbell. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers said he was wearing his seat belt.
Campbell was the only one in the car. No one else was hurt.
West said the impact to the house caused only minor damage. The vehicle did not go through the wall.
The wreck is still under investigation.
