Griffin, GA : Alabama woman killed in accident on I-20 near Douglasville Sunday night, August 14, 2016
An Alabama woman was killed and her husband was injured in an accident on Interstate 20 near Douglasville Sunday night.
Douglas County Coroner Randy Daniel said Amanda Burns, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:48 p.m. and her husband, Cody Burns, was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. The couple is from the Anniston, Alabama, area, Daniel said.
The crash occurred at 9:48 p.m. Sunday about a mile west of Lee Road when a 2000 GMC Yukon traveling westbound ran off the roadway, struck a guardrail, rotated clockwise, overturned and came to rest against a tree, Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Tracey Watson said.
Daniel said it appeared that a tire blew out on the Burns’ Yukon, causing the accident. He said both Amanda and Cody Burns were wearing their seatbelts and that it was just a “freak accident.”
The Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is conducting a follow-up investigation, Watson said.
