Junction City, KS : 19-year-old Hays woman killed after crashing on icy roads on Tuesday, 22nd January 2019

A 19-year-old Hays woman was killed Tuesday when she lost control of her car during icy conditions.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported in its crash logs that Ashlen Leigh Lemon was killed about 3 p.m. when the 2005 Chevy Malibu she was driving left the road, entered the median and then hit a guardrail. The accident occurred about two miles west of Junction City on Interstate 70.

KHP Trooper Ben Gardner was at the scene and posted a video on Twitter from his vehicle. Wiping tears from his face, he said, “It’s devastating.”

“Please consider your safety in your travels,” he said. “Do you need to be on the roadways? How are you driving your vehicle? What are you doing to keep yourself as safe as you can for what can be taking place around you. Be safe, everyone.”
