According to police, a school bus was traveling the wrong direction before colliding with a car in northeast Charlotte Tuesday morning. No word on why the driver was on the wrong side of the road. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) say none of the 28 students on the bus were injured.

CMS tells WBTV the bus driver's name is Shawn Dell Carpenter. She has been driving for CMS since August, 2014. She has been suspended with pay pending investigation.

The wreck happened just before 8:30 a.m. on Rocky River Road near N Tryon Street. Bus 1376 was carrying Morehead STEM Academy students, according to CMS.

The driver of the car who was hit by bus 1376, a 22-year-old, suffered minor scratches and bruises according to the father who was at the scene. A 5-year-old who was also in the car, was not injured.

CMS sent out a Connect-Ed message to parents informing them of what happened. The message told parents a school nurse would check students out once they arrived to school.
