SALISBURY, MA : Salisbury car crash victim ID'd on Wednesday, 9th November 2016
The local woman killed in a two-car crash Wednesday afternoon on Route 286 near Route 1 was identified Thursday as Lisa Foderaro, 53, of 11th Street.
Salisbury police Chief Thomas Fowler said it appeared Foderaro was driving east on Route 286 in a Volkswagen Beetle around 12:30 p.m. when, for an unknown reason, she crossed the yellow line and struck a Honda Accord almost head-on. The force of the crash partially threw Foderaro from her car. She was taken to Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, where she was pronounced dead, Fowler said.
The other driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. There were no other occupants in either car, the chief said.
Part of Route 286 remained closed well into the afternoon after the crash and school bus companies were notified that drivers might need to find other routes during the closure.
State troopers assisted local police and firefighters. Fowler said the crash is under investigation.
Kelly Cogswell of Billerica and her husband were among the first at the scene; they were heading to Brown’s Lobster Pound in Seabrook for lunch. Cogswell said Foderaro was lying on the street with severe injuries when they arrived. Her husband, a Billerica police officer, rushed over and performed CPR on Foderaro. But, despite his best efforts, he could not revive her.
“It was sad to see,” Cogswell said. “I prayed for her.”
Cogswell said the man driving the other car was out of his vehicle and appeared shaken up. Both cars were totaled, she added.
A neighbor across the street from Foderaro’s residence said she was married and had one teenaged daughter.
No one was home when a reporter visited Foderaro’s home.
