EVANSVILLE, IN : Settlement reached in Indiana van crash on Friday, 7th September 2018

A settlement has been reached in lawsuits filed after a rollover crash on a southwestern Indiana freeway killed two Haitian immigrants and injured 20 others.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports Friday that settlement terms were not made public.

Attorney Neil Chapman who represents the estate of 29-year-old Christela Georges and an injured passenger tells the newspaper that the settlement was reached “to the mutual satisfaction of the parties.”

A van carrying Georges, 60-year-old Gena Moise and other workers crashed in 2015 on Interstate 69 near Evansville. All of the workers were being driven to an Evansville factory.

Investigators say the 16-passenger van was carrying 24 people when it blew a tire.

Lawsuit defendants included the van’s owner, his son, the makers of the van’s tires and the immigrants’ employers.
