FOX LAKE, IL : 1 killed in wrong way Fox Lake crash on Thursday, 24th August 2023

A 21-year-old man was killed in a wrong-way crash in north suburban Fox Lake Thursday night, police said.

Police responded at about 9:39 p.m. to a crash on U.S, Highway 12 north of Illinois Route 134.

A black Cadillac SUV was traveling south in the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 12 when police said it struck a blue Ford van traveling north.

The Fox Lake Fire Protection District responded and had to cut both the drivers out of their vehicles.

The 21-year-old man driving the Ford was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. The Lake County Coroner's Office identified him as Anthony Herrera, of Wauconda.

The 48-year-old driver of the Cadillac was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in stable condition.
