Alcohol and cell phone use are believed to be involved in an Isabella County crash that left a Lake man with serious injuries, the Isabella County Sheriff’s Office reports.
The crash occurred at 9:56 p.m. Monday on Brinton Road north of Herrick Road in Coldwater Township when a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix went off the roadway after negotiating a curve. The car traveled on the shoulder of the road for several hundred feet then crossed a yard, struck a culvert and landed in a home’s driveway, a media release states.
When deputies reached the scene, the passenger, John Plank, 34, Weidman, was outside the vehicle. He was not hurt.
The driver, identified as 26-year-old Tyler Miller of Lake, was trapped inside the car and was extricated by fire personnel. He was unable to communicate with first responders because of his injuries, including head and facial trauma. He was taken to a local emergency room, and later airlifted to Covenant HealthCare in Saginaw for treatment.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Nottawa Sherman Township Fire Department, Mobile Medical Response, FlightCare and Auto Solutions.
