Cobb County, GA : 2 struck by car, seriously injured while waiting for help after Marietta wreck on Monday, 17th February, 2020
Two drivers were seriously injured Monday night in a chain-reaction crash at a busy Cobb County intersection, authorities said.
The drivers were standing outside their vehicles following a relatively minor wreck at the intersection of Cobb Parkway and the Canton Road Connector when a pickup truck slammed into one of the cars, pushing it into both drivers, police said. The incident occurred about 10:15 p.m., Marietta police spokesman Officer Chuck McPhilamy said. The initial collision involved a 2011 BMW driven by 25-year-old Alabama resident Kanisha Thompson and a 2008 Buick Enclave driven by 51-year-old Connie Hawkins of Euharlee, McPhilamy said.Minor injuries were reported in the initial wreck and the two drivers stepped out of their vehicles while waiting for first responders to arrive.“Visibility was low and both wrecked vehicles were now disabled, blocking the intersection and one of the northbound lanes of Cobb Parkway,” McPhilamy said. “Preliminary statements indicate the wrecked vehicles may not have been visible to approaching motorists.”Police believe Thompson’s BMW was struck by a Nissan Frontier truck driven by 21-year-old Samy Nolasco of Rome. The impact pushed the disabled BMW into Thompson and Hawkins as they waited for help to arrive.
