Four-lane Route 209 reopened Monday afternoon after a Sunday night crash that killed three people in the Shafer Schoolhouse Road area.
Two Ford Mustangs were heading south on four-lane 209 when both cars lost control and crossed the median into the northbound lane, according to information state police released Monday afternoon.
One of the Mustangs collided head-on with a Subaru Forester, causing both vehicles to burst into flames. The other Mustang continued south in the northbound lane until hitting a guard rail.
The Mustang and Subaru involved in the collision were fully engulfed in flames by the time emergency personnel arrived. That Mustang’s driver and the Subaru’s driver and passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.
