Germantown, MD : Man killed in two-vehicle crash on I-270 in northern Montgomery County early Thursday, May 19, 2016
Northbound I-270 was closed for several hours early Thursday after a Montgomery Village man was killed in a two-vehicle crash in northern Montgomery County.
Norman David Bennett, 80, was dead when state troopers from the Rockville Barrack arrived at the crash site on I-270 near Clarksburg Road/Md. 121 around 2:45 a.m., according to Sgt. Darwin Bennett, a state police supervisor.
State police received a call from a concerned driver who saw Bennett's vehicle disabled in the road at 2:35 a.m. A trooper was responding to the call when the crash occurred, according to a state police press release.
Bennett's vehicle was struck from behind by another car, according to the release.
The driver of the striking vehicle was taken to Shady Grove Adventist Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, the release stated.
The road was closed until about 6:30 a.m., Sgt. Bennett said. Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash, the release stated
