Ottawa County, OH : Multiple crashes slow traffic on state Route 2 west on Friday afternoon October 3rd 2014
Multiple crashes slowed state Route 2 westbound in Ottawa County Friday afternoon and evening.
According to the State Highway Patrol, the first crash occurred at 2:40 p.m. in the westbound lanes near state Route 269 when James Kinney of Sandusky lost control in the heavy rain.
He hydroplaned and struck a guardrail but neither he nor his passenger, Jennifer Soler of Sandusky, were hurt.
Both were wearing their seatbelts, and their vehicle was towed.
While troopers were investigating that crash, another crash occurred about 3:30 p.m. in the backed up traffic.
This crash involved four vehicles and occurred about 3 tentg.
The Highway Patrol says Robert Rosenberger of Port Clinton failed to maintain assured clear distance and struck two vehicles that were stopped because of the crash. One of those vehicles was pushed into the left lane, where it struck a fourth vehicle.
Rosenberger, who was taken to Magruder Hospital, was cited and his vehicle was towed.
Jane Dean of Columbus and Bruce Kuhre of Athens were the drivers of the second and third vehicles. Each was treated and released at Magruder.
The last vehicle was driven by Robert Lucas of Ostrander. He was not injured.All the drivers in that crash were wearing seatbelts.
A third crash was reported at 3:36 p.m. in the left lane behind the second crash.Mark Gruenberg of Port Clinton was rear-ended by a commercial vehicle driven by Dennis McCallum of Twin Lake, Mich.
Gruenberg was treated and released at Magruder, and McCallum was not hurt. Both were wearing seatbelts.
As a result of the crashes, traffic was reduced to one lane for several hours.
The State Highway Patrol was assisted by Danbury Township police, the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, the U.S. Boarder Patrol, the Margaretta Fire Department, the Danbury Township Fire Department and North Central EMS.
The patrol reminds drivers to drive safely and maintain a safe distance between their vehicle and the vehicle ahead of them.
