Hamilton, MT : One man is dead and another is in critical condition after a head-on accident on February, Friday 9th 2018
One man is dead and another is in critical condition after a head-on accident Friday morning on Highway 93 near Victor.
According to Montana Highway Patrol Sgt. Scott Bennett, either a 2000 Chevy Tahoe or a 2007 GMC truck crossed the center line about three miles south of Victor and hit the other vehicle head-on. A third vehicle – a 2005 Honda Accord – was sideswiped as part of the accident, but the female driver was uninjured.
The driver of the Tahoe, who died, was 74 years old. The driver of the GMC truck is 48 years old, and after being initially treated at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital, he was taken by ambulance to the Trauma Center at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula.
Their names aren’t being released until family members are notified.
Bennett said it’s too early to tell the cause of the accident, but law enforcement officers have been busy all morning because of the light snow that fell on an underlying layer of slush.
“There have been several crashes because of the snow,” Bennett said. “It seems likely that could be the cause of this one, but it’s too soon to tell.”
He wasn’t sure if the drivers were wearing seatbelts, or if alcohol was involved. Their hometowns weren't immediately available.
The accident blocked northbound traffic for about an hour, and at one point it was diverted via Bear Creek Road.
