Columbia, SC : Two Mount Pleasant police officers were injured on May, Saturday, 20th 2017
Two Mount Pleasant police officers were injured early Saturday morning after a car crashed into their police vehicles.
According to a brief report provided by the Mount Pleasant Police Department, the officers had stopped a driver suspected of DUI near Highway 17 and Shelmore Boulevard. As they were arresting the driver, a vehicle struck the rear of one police vehicle and was pushed into the second police car. The officers and the person they were arresting were knocked to the ground.
Officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol confirm the officers and the DUI suspect were transported to a local hospital and later released. The man who crashed into the back of the police vehicles was also arrested and charged with driving under the influence.The man officers were arresting (photo above) was booked into the Charleston County detention center just after 6 a.m. Saturday after his release from the hospital. Cory Scot Padilla, 30, is charged with DUI (not first offense). His bond was set Saturday at $10,000.
Charged with DUI in connection to the crash is 30-year-old Michael Scott Meadows. A judge set his bond Saturday at $992.
