San Antonio,TX : Troopers testify on deadly crash before grand jury on June, Monday 26th 2017
Department of Public Safety troopers testified Monday before a Uvalde County grand jury about the March 29 collision that killed 13 members of a New Braunfels church, but the outcome of the panel’s deliberations likely won’t be known for days.
“The troopers presented the case and the grand jury asked questions,” District Attorney Daniel Kindred said just after noon Monday, noting the same grand jury also heard evidence on more than 20 other criminal investigations.
“All the indictments that are tendered will go to the clerk’s office, where they will generate files and issue any warrants that are needed. The indictments are sealed until the warrants are served, then they will become public,” he said. “Hopefully, by the end of the week, the clerk will have all of the indicted cases over to the sheriff’s office for the warrants to be served.”
Rogelio F. Muñoz, the attorney for Jack D. Young, the Leakey man accused of causing the head-on crash on U.S. 83, said weeks ago that his client, whom he called devastated by the incident, would not appear before the panel
“I haven’t heard anything,” Munoz said Monday afternoon. “It will take them a while to get the paperwork done. If there’s an indictment, the judge will set a bond. Then it goes to the clerk’s office for them to issue a warrant. An indictment is secret until it's served."
