Man killed and highway shut down in Armstrong County crash

A 37-year-old Ford City man was killed early today in a two-vehicle crash that shut down a major highway in Armstrong County for more than six hours. Police suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The deceased was identified as Terry R. McClafferty by Armstrong Deputy Coroner Brian K. Myers.State police at Kittanning said the accident occurred at 1:36 a.m. on Route 422 in Kittanning, just west of Cornish Road.Mr. Myers said Mr. McClafferty was westbound on Route 422 when his Dodge pickup was hit head on by a Ford pickup that was eastbound on Route 422.Mr. McClafferty was pronounced dead at the scene by Mr. Myers.The driver of the Ford pickup was identified by police as Jonathon Brandon Miller, 23. Police did not indicate Mr. Miller’s hometown.Police said Mr. Miller’s vehicle crossed the double yellow lines of the highway into oncoming traffic.Police said alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor but that charges will not be filed until the investigation is completed and until lab results are available.
