VERO BEACH, FL : Woman gets 7 years for DUI crash that killed teen bicyclist on Thursday, December 01, 2016
A central Florida woman has been sentenced to seven years in prison for a drunken driving crash that killed a teenage bicyclist.
23-year-old Jamie Williams was sentenced Thursday after pleading no contest to DUI manslaughter.
Authorities say Williams was driving her car over the Alma Lee Loy Bridge, which crosses the Indian River Lagoon, in September 2014 when she struck 16-year-old Cole Coppola. Divers later found his body in the lagoon.
Court records show Williams had a blood-alcohol content of 0.144 percent. Florida law considers a driver impaired at 0.08.
