Papillion, NE : One person in critical condition after crashing into tree near 72nd and Harrison streets on Monday morning, February 22, 2016

A person is in critical condition in a hospital Monday morning.

La Vista police say they tried to make a traffic stop near 72nd and Harrison streets around 11 p.m. Sunday, when the car sped off.

Officers say the driver raced off at high speeds, and then hit a tree near 66th Street and Giles Road.

Firefighters got the driver, 34-year-old James Klein, out of the car, and took him to Nebraska Medicine.

Police say alcohol may be a factor in the crash, and charges are pending.
