COSTILLA COUNTY, CO : Pueblo man dies in ATV accident on Wednesday, September 13, 2017
A Pueblo man was killed on Wednesday afternoon in an ATV accident in Costilla County.
The Costilla County Coroner pronounced Bobby Medina, 64, of Pueblo dead at the scene Wednesday afternoon after the ATV he was riding tipped over, and he was ejected.
The initial call for the accident came in about 1 p.m. on September 13, according to the Colorado State Patrol. Deputies from the Costilla County Sheriff’s Department and troopers from the Colorado State Patrol responded to the crash area in the Sangre De Cristo Ranches southeast of Fort Garland. Deputies, troopers, and medical personnel from the Costilla County Fire Department were finally able to locate the victim a little before 4 p.m. on a steep hill located off of Fleishman Road, which is near the old Battle Mountain Gold Mine.
According to the State Patrol, Medina was attempting to ride his 2002 Kawasaki Prairie ATV up a steep hill, and it appeared the ATV tipped over ejecting Medina from the ATV. When medical personnel finally got to Medina they attempted to perform CPR but were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Victim’s advocates from Alamosa also responded to the scene to help the family members who were there.
