PHELPS COUNTY, MS : One person has died following a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 44 on Sunday, September 17th 2017

One person has died following a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 44 near mile marker 173 at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

MSHP said a 2014 Volvo drove off the left side of I-44 traveling westbound, returned to the road and struck a second semi, a 2015 International tractor trailer. The Volvo semitruck then drove off the left side of the interstate again, crossed the median and hit a 2006 Dodge Caravan head-on.

The driver of the minivan, Margaret Carter, 52, of Maryland Heights, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Zukhriddin Kharyullaev, who drove the Volvo semi, and George Riser, the driver of the International trailer, were not injured, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.

This was Troop I's first fatality of September and the 19th of 2017.
