A Pretty Prairie man died from injuries in an accident near Crupper’s Corner on Friday.
Leo Vern Krehbiel, 82, died at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center several hours after the accident which occurred at 4:50 p.m., according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
Officials on the scene Friday evening said thick fog may likely have contributed intersection of K-96 and K-17.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash log, Krehbiel was stopped at the intersection on K-17 when he failed to yield the right-of-way to southbound Mary Teresa Sobba, 44. Sobba’s 2011 Ford Fusion hit Krehbiel’s 2012 Chevy Colorado. Sobba’s vehicle came to rest on the shoulder of the K-96 southbound lanes. Krehbiel’s vehicle came to rest across the median near the shoulder of the K-96 northbound lanes.
Sobba was also taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Krehbiel’s wife Reta, 80, was also in the vehicle. She was uninjured.
According to the logs, all three were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.
According to a Reno County Sheriff officer, a third vehicle in the turning lane of the intersection prevented Krehbiel from seeing Sobba.
