HONOLULU, HI : Memorial for 3 killed in horrific crash on Monday, 4th February 2019

A growing memorial for three pedestrians killed in a horrific crash Monday has been moved so that crews can make repairs to a light pole damaged in the incident.
The flower, lei and other mementos left for the victims have been moved to a grassy area mauka of the crash scene at Kamakee Street and Ala Moana Boulevard.
It was originally on the traffic island, where a group of pedestrians was standing when they were hit by a pick-up truck whose driver was allegedly drunk, speeding and trying to evade police.
“Our hearts go out to everyone involved in this tragic incident,” said Hawaii Transportation Department Director Jade Butay, in a news release.
“We understand the community needs to mourn the loss and we want to be respectful of those wishes, while also making the necessary repairs in the area. We ask people to refrain from leaving alcohol containers at the memorial as it is counterproductive to the message of driving sober.”
The new memorial will remain up for two weeks.
So far this year, 13 people have been kill on Hawaii roads, six of whom were pedestrians.
