LAKELAND, FL : Fatal crash in North Combee Road in Lakeland on Friday, 27th July 2018

A pedestrian was killed Friday morning when he was hit by a box truck on North Combee Road in Lakeland.
About 3:23 a.m., Justin Gleon Barnes of 531 Jamestown Ave., Lakeland, was struck about a half-mile south of State Road 33, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.The truck, a 2016 Hino box truck operated by Hoover Transportation of Plant City, was driven by John Bland, 29, of Plant City and was traveling south on North Combee Road.Barnes had been walking or standing near the center of the road when he was struck, according to the preliminary investigation. Bland told investigators that he didn’t see Barnes, who was walking in a dark area wearing dark-colored clothing.
Speed, distraction and impairment do not appear to be contributing factors with the driver, but the Sheriff’s Office said Barnes might have been impaired.
The crash remains under investigation, and attempts to identify the pedestrian will continue.
