Passenger flees with car during traffic stop, crashes
The passenger of a car pulled over by police reportedly took the vehicle while the driver was being detained early Tuesday morning.
The incident began when the duo was stopped in Madison around 3:35 a.m. because the driver ran a stop light.
The driver, identified as 32-year-old Tenisha Grimes, reportedly told police she was driving on a suspended license.
As she was being taken into custody, the female passenger drove off.
Police told News 2 they never followed the woman, but heard she was most likely headed toward an apartment complex near Litton Avenue and Gallatin Pike in east Nashville.
Officers were waiting for her there when they got word she crashed into a parked vehicle nearby.
The woman, identified as 43-year-old Monique Bryant and the owner of the car, was found pinned inside the vehicle in the 1100 block of Pennock Avenue just after 3:45 a.m.
It took firefighters over 15 minutes to free her.
Bryant was transported to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries.
Police told News 2 Bryant had several outstanding warrants for evading arrest, driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license.
The warrants have yet to be served.
