Albuquerque, N.M : 11 people injured in rollover crash in South Valley on Thursday afternoon, April 14, 2016
Eleven people were hospitalized, including seven children, after someone driving a van full of kids was weaving through traffic and caused a serious rollover crash in the South Valley on Thursday afternoon.
Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Felicia Romero said multiple people were ejected in the crash. She said she didn’t know the condition of the injured people Thursday evening, but she said all of them were expected to survive.
Romero said deputies were called to the crash near Isleta and Gun Club around 3 p.m. Thursday.
There they found 10 people who had been in the van – seven children and three adults – were injured. The driver of the other car involved in the crash was also injured. All of them were rushed to the hospital, Romero said.
She said deputies learned that the van’s driver was recklessly weaving through traffic and collided with a sedan that was heading northbound.
It’s unclear where the van was headed or why so many children were inside. Romero said the vehicle was not a school van, but she said she didn’t know if the driver was a parent of any of the children inside.
She also said deputies don’t yet know if alcohol was a factor in the crash. She didn’t identify any of those involved or say if anyone will be charged.
