Milford Township, MI : Driver dies after crashing into tree in the area of Maple early Friday morning, November 18, 2016

A motorist was pronounced dead at the scene early Friday morning after driving a vehicle into a tree off South Hill Road, in the area of Maple, in Milford Township.

Milford Police and Milford Township Fire Department responded to a 9-1-1 call shortly after 4:30 a.m. The caller indicated that a late model pickup truck was engulfed in flames after crashing into a tree.

A preliminary investigation indicated the vehicle was traveling too fast for road conditions and left the roadway. It's unknown whether alcohol played a factor in the single-occupant vehicle crash.

Police Chief Thomas Lindberg said the occupant appeared to be male. He said no other information would be released until the victim is identified, most likely Monday through dental records, and after family members are notified.
