Two adults and one child were taken to the hospital Monday morning after their car crashed into the U.S. 501 bridge and into the marsh area near the Waccamaw River, according to Horry County Fire officials.
Conway Fire Rescue and Horry County Fire Rescue crews spent more than an hour extricating the three people from the car.
Mark Nugent, with Horry County Fire Rescue, said the car fell about 40 feet and landed on its roof.
He added that all the people had critical injuries and the child was taken to the hospital by helicopter.
Nugent said the rescue was grueling for crews because they had to lower people and equipment down the ravine to get to the three trapped in the vehicle.
